A well trained racehorse is a steady and smart animal... he can't afford to get rattled. He must cope with travel, the hustle and bustle of crowds of fans, inspections with offcials poking all around him and pulling up his lip to check for a tatoo, the cheering and loudspeaker noises, and a hectic regimented schedule. He learns to stand quietly and safely in starting gates, even with the anticipation of a loud clang and bells and thundering hooves. And he is controlled by a very small rider with usually nothing more than a snaffle bit. ... these animals are even trained to urinate in a cup when you whistle! That sounds ridiculous, but it is a routine in the post-race test barn! A professionally trained racehorse is apt to be better minded and more willing than any horse you can find.
